The big question: How does GDPR affect me?

The GDPR is the biggest piece of data legislation since 1995, and it’s coming into effect this month. In essence, it gives people a much greater level of control over how companies gather and process their data, and with that, adds a number of rules that businesses like jisp need to abide by.

What does GDPR mean for jisp?

We’re a business that thrives on data. Without it, we wouldn’t be able to provide you with the tailored offers, promos and content you love. The fact is: we do what we do for you, and to make the High Street the best it can be. So, if there’s any way we can make that experience more transparent, reliable and trustworthy, we’re totally game. As such, there’s a few things you may find interesting about how we gather and process your data.

NOTE: Where relevant, we’ve peppered in some links to ICO, the UK GDPR authority. If you’d like to read up on some of the specifics we’re talking about, go right ahead.

You only have to give us your email and first name. You’re free to give us as much or as little information as you like. It’s worth mentioning that the more you give us, the better we can tailor our services to you — but that probably makes sense already.

We only use GPS when jisp is open on your phone. Otherwise, we send you information using close proximity Bluetooth beacons. Basically, they only know when you walk near them, and send your phone ‘a packet’ of information.

If you don’t want to receive notifications from us, you can disable them all, or you can disable notifications from individual stores by using the ‘do not disturb’ function. You can request for us to ‘forget’ you at any time by emailing privacy@jisp.com. We’ll delete everything we have for you. If you stop using jisp but don’t request to be forgotten, we’ll remove you after three years.

GDPR is a good thing, honest.

We never share your information with third parties without your consent. Email addresses will be stored in our email platform, Dotmailer, only if you consent to us contacting you via email. They’ve got their own security measures in place to keep your data super safe.

All data is stored in the cloud, on the Microsoft Azure platform – one of the most secure and widely trusted cloud platforms on the market.

Retailers on jisp can’t access your personal data. They only get statistics like how many people visited or took part in an offer, or whether you liked an item. That kind of thing. This allows them to create offers, services and marketing based on general trends. Put another way, they’ll never be able to access any data that personally identifies you.

We don’t store information on who activated which beacons, as in no mobile number or jisp identifier is stored.
