A Day in the Life of a Studio Team Manager at Jisp

In this blog, our Studio Team Manager Karen Hanna, walks us through a typical day in her role at Jisp, sharing her advice and thoughts about everything we're working on.

Who are you and what is your role at Jisp?

Hi, I’m Karen 👋 the Studio Team Manager at Jisp.

Can you describe a typical day in your role?

I am the first point of contact for all things design within the company. I daily liaise with other departments across the business from sales to retail growth to create and refine briefs for the Studio team. I work closely with the Studio team, which consists of 7 Graphic Designers, 1 Videographer and 1 Web/UI/UX Designer, proofing design projects and ensuring Jisp brand consistency and quality management within all creative work.

What aspects of your work do you find most enjoyable or fulfilling?

Seeing a campaign succeed and do well whether it’s a brand partnership, event or campaign and knowing I played my part within the Studio team to make the creative side happen.

How do you see your role/team contributing to the overall mission and success of Jisp?

The Studio team along with marketing are really striving this year for more brand awareness with shoppers. We recently rebranded with a simpler, more professional look, in doing so we strive to become a more recognised app in the industry.

In your opinion, what qualities or skills make someone effective in your position?

Strong management and Project Management skills, a clear understanding of the importance of brand identity and a keen attention to detail.

Could you share some insights into your work processes and any tools or strategies you find valuable?

Click up, a project management tool is my best friend. It allows me to organise and conduct multiple tasks across my team and the wider business effectively.

What's your vision for your team? How do you nurture a collaborative and productive environment?

My team are great, they work so well both together and independently and have became a well established studio. As they progress in their careers through their own achievements but along with my assistance I’m excited to see what we can achieve in the future as everyone skills and confidence progress even further. I feel I encourage an open space for my team where everyone’s opinion is important, success for the team involves everyone and teamwork makes the dream work.

Can you talk about any recent achievements or projects that you're particularly proud of?

I recently completed my CMI Level 5 Award in Management and Leadership which I found insightful. It has given me a deeper outlook on my role in management, highlighting important aspects of good management and culture which has helped me do the best for my team and the business.

What advice would you give to someone looking to excel in a similar role or industry?

Moving from one of the team as Senior Graphic Designer to the Studio Team Manager was daunting and the imposter syndrome at times was very real. But I do believe opportunities happen for a reason, you have to grab them with both hands and make the role your own.

From your perspective, what sets Jisp apart as a company to work for?

My first month at Jisp I couldn’t get over how lovely and thoughtful everyone was. I had just moved from Northern Ireland to England to live for the first time and everyone I met at Jisp made me feel so welcome. Also the recent introduction of a 4-day working week has been such a benefit to my work life balance and mental health. Being able to take a step back once a week to recharge, focus on other aspects of life and return refreshed and ready for work has been so beneficial to myself and creatively to my team.

What excites you most about the future of Jisp, both in terms of your role and the company as a whole?

Jisp is growing in all areas, with more shoppers downloading and using the app to see our engagement grow on social media is great, new stores coming on board and brand partnerships are increasing while also retaining the brands we already have great relationships with. Which inevitably means more work for my team but the success that comes with that growth is really exciting and makes the hard work worth while.
